Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a specialised form of therapy designed to promote the natural circulation of lymph through the body. It is particularly beneficial for reducing swelling, enhancing immune function, and promoting overall health. MLD is best known for its role in treating Lymphoedema and Lipoedema, but it can also be used to support healing after surgery, improve scarring and skin conditions, relieve sinusitis and fibromyalgia, relieve pregnancy-related oedema, and improve overall health and well-being. Combining Deep Oscillation Therapy with the techniques of MLD (when appropriate) enhances the treatment further as the fluid within the connective tissue is enabled to flow more freely whilst carrying a greater proportion of debris and toxins, which can then be removed from the lymph fluid as it passes through the lymph nodes. This results in enhanced reduction of swelling, reduced healing times, improved breakdown of fibrosis, and well-managed pain. MLD is deeply relaxing as it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system creating a calming and relaxing effect proving to be very beneficial for stress relief and improved sleep. I’m excited to be in a position to share these therapies, which are known to help promote the natural function of the lymphatic system and make such a tangible difference to those experiencing symptoms.
Taking your next steps to receive treatment
· Email to receive a FREE 15-minute introductory call to discuss your needs and take a brief medical history (there are some medical conditions which are not compatible with MLD, DOT and or bandaging).
· Initial assessment appointment to complete medical history in detail, take measurements and photos of the areas to be treated (with consent), devise a plan suitable for your needs and complete an initial MLD neck treatment to awaken the lymphatic system. Please allow 1-2 hours for this assessment at a cost of £130.
· In some circumstances your G.P or specialist physician may need to be contacted before treatment can begin.
· If Combined Decongestive Therapy is recommended you will receive MLD and DOT (if suitable) followed by skin care and bandaging, depending on the treatment area/areas this appointment can take from 1-3 hours and will follow the pre-agreed schedule.
· At the midpoint of your treatment, you will need to be measured for your compression garment/s and a prescription request made to your GP or a private order placed so that they are ready for use at the end of phase 1.
· Move into the maintenance phase 2
Many clients do not require phase one and can move straight to the maintenance stage, if so, it is recommended to receive 3 treatments as close together as possible before increasing the space between sessions this could be weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or as and when depending on your need. For those seeking MLD for relaxation rather than medical need the completion of a medical history intake form is still required and your initial appointment will be slightly longer so this can be reviewed in person before the treatment begins.
